Abstract


The purpose of the study is to describe English for medical academic purposes based on the needs analysis of Health Science Students in eastern Indonesian State Islamic Higher Education. The method used in this research was survey with 56 informants of the fifth semester students of Health Sciences academic year 2012/2013 as a sample to fill out a written opened questionnaires. The result showed that the sort of EMAP course materials consisted of ten components and eighteen topics, the students’ needs and expectations were reading and listening (receptive skills) and speaking and writing (productive skills) while the current English materials have not accommodated all the four skills. To identify the learning model, the design of EMAP course materials should support the students to be able to learn alone, in pairs, a small group,  a big group, and with all their classmates.
