Abstract

The aim of this project is to illustrate how ceramic works can be implemented in pre-school education, through drama method.  Art is a tool of communication, and when it is used in a positive way, it is one of the best instruments to accelerate mental, emotional, and intellectual development process.  Children who establish close contact with art, like painting, ceramics, and sculpture, accelerate the development of their skills.  As works carried out within the relationship of children and art can widen their scope, ceramics and sculpture works, which contribute to the development process, will strengthen the relationship between children and art.  With this project, it is aimed to create an awareness of ceramics art in children, and also produce ceramic works with children, using stories.  In this project, history of ceramics in Cyprus was examined, experts were interviewed, and the contribution of ceramics to pre-school children was examined.  10 activities were carried out with a group of 25 pre-school children, using the drama method.  The kind of ceramics works that can be implemented in pre-school using the drama method has been illustrated in the project.  It is thought that the project will contribute to show how ceramics works can be carried out in pre-school, using the drama method.  The works that came out of this implementation were presented at an exhibition under the theme ‘From Stories to Ceramics’.  Thus, both artistic and educational activities were illustrated with this project, and it helped reflecting values towards the future within an aesthetic sensitivity.
