Abstract

Canvas, being my conventional medium for painting has the limitation for me to produce relief artworks. Due to this reason, I have decided to explore the potential property of petroleum based material that is polyurethane as my new medium of artwork. Exploration of material will create new medium for my artworks and allow me to impose various techniques onto the material.I believe that by exploration of new material, it will challenge and enhance the creative process of my work. Thus, as an artist, I am more interested in experimenting polyurethane with various techniques, which may be useful for manipulating the material. I have had preconceive ideas what I may have wanted from polyurethane but the effect and results may not be as expected. Therefore the use of different techniques on the polyurethane may have given satisfactory or non satisfactory results due to how I may want it look on the artwork. I have not tried polyurethane in my works before. However through simple tests it is proven that polyurethane has the potential character as relief artwork. It is stable, durable and flexible. In conclusion polyurethane is suitable to be used as an alternative to canvas for producing my relief artworks.
