Toward Using Technology as Supporting Tools and Material in Geography Subject

Abstract


Abstract

Educational tools and materials are very central element for supporting the educational process. Currently understanding how to progress and use it professionally are more important than ever. Hence, this paper sheds light on the possibility of using education technology tools in schools in the geography subject. It held to examine the ability of lecturers in utilize new technology tools and using new materials in their education process. Moreover, the study aims to find out the unavailability and suitability of new technology aids in primary schools.

This quantitative research was conducted with the participation of geography teachers in the KRG government primary schools of. In addition, in order to assemble and evaluate the data a survey questionnaire which involved 16 objects was used and 390 geography teachers were carefully chosen to participate in this research. Also, in order to analyze the means, percentages, standard deviations, frequencies, T-test and, SPSS program was used and the quantitative data was analyzed descriptively.

The outcomes of this research indicate that a very high percentage of geography teachers are facing obstacles in relation to approachability to new educational tools and materials resources, absence of training courses or in-service training opportunities and numerous administrative and technical difficulties still need to be solved. On the other hand, the study showed differences between teachers’ observations on using new technology conferring to their year of experiences, gender. Finally, the study discovered that majority of participant had negative opinion toward utilizing technology as supporting material in their classrooms due inaccessibility of these tools, materials and devices.
