An Investigation of Personality on Facebook users in undergraduate students

Abstract


This study examined the relationship between nine personality disorders (avoidant, dependent, passive-aggressive, obsessive-compulsive, antisocial, narcissistic, histrionic, paranoid and schizoid/schizotypal) and facebook use. Participants were 198 undergraduate students of Department of Mentally Disabled Teacher Education, Department of Counselling and Department of Preschool Education, of Private University in North Cyprus.  The sample comprised of 143 women and 55 men with an average age of 21.38. Participants completed Personality Belief Questionnaire. We found that the most preffered function was post a comment to users’ posted. The results showed that “post a comment” was the only significant predictor of narcissistic person. However, no significant relationships were found for the other personality disorders. In addition, “share the adress informations” was a significant predictor of antisocial person. There was a negative correlations was observed. Occur with the literature, results showed that Facebook users high level on neuroticism were more like their posted photos.  However, there was no relationships between posted photos and personality disorders. Many research was focus on friendship and personality, but in this study was focus on functions.
