Abstract

This research aims to study the learning motivation among French language learners. French is one of the important and very world-known language. From the experience, the researcher finds that the learners have high motivation to choose French as a major at the beginning of university period, but after that their motivation decreases until some students decide to give up their study or change their study plan. From this problem, the researcher is interested in the negative factors effecting the motivation of the learners in order to solve the problems, and would like to study the positive factors in order to know the strength of the educational system. The result shows that more than half of the sample thought of giving up learning French because of the difficulty and their classmates, however at the same time, some students are still interest in learning French because they like arts and culture. Enhancing their motivation is quite challenge for the instructors because not only they need to develop teaching methodology to be modern and suitable for learners, but they also need to know and understand other factors that might affect the learners.
