Challenges of art pedagogy graduates’ employment

Abstract


Problem Statement. Graduates’ employment is one of the study program’s quality’s index even though the university is not a craft school or agency of employment. Graduates have also the possibility to form their own studios and associations. In order to observe their career we have used objective and subjective indexes. However their employment data systematization variety, it’s use and correctness of interpretation are guided by political, economical and other purposes.

Purpose of Study – find out the employment challenges, which are faced by graduates of dance, theatre, art and music.

Methods. Seeking to reveal how fast graduates find a job after graduating, their position in the labor market, occupation and also salary, we have accomplished the analysis of informational systems and the analysis of the state and departmental register of the Republic of Lithuania. We have managed to create a survey with different questions about career in order to find out their subjective opinion.

Findings and Results. Graduates’ monitoring data is restricted by Lithuanian labor market and it does not include all forms of occupation. Only subjective indexes allow us to solve the employment  of art pedagogy not only according to work contracts, but also graduates’ individual work and the development of their private business.

Conclusions and Recommendations. Data of employment and career process reveal job possibilities in Lithuanian labor market after graduating. However this is not enough to assess the quality of the study program.
