Abstract

The objective of this review was to find the suitable method to manage low back pain among nurses and demonstrates how to search for the evidence and how to apply it practicality even at home setting. The keywords that were used include exercise, gym ball, and low back pain. PubMed, Science Direct, Google scholar, and Scopus were used to obtain quality controlled information regarding the management of low back pain. Current evidence shows that an active exercise program promotes early recovery. The use of gym ball is effective in rehabilitation of the back. It strengthens and develops the core body muscles that help to stabilize the spine. On top of that, few studies have reported that the use of gym ball could improve exercise compliance and reduce the incidence or recurrence.  Gym ball exercise together with stretching and strengthening exercise is the best combination to be suggested as the mainstay for the management of low back pain among nurses. The techniques can be applied in development of exercise education module.
